can we produce 8mm copper rod from 100% copper bailed scrap? What will be the disadvantages of this?

Hello Mr. Pramod,

There is certainly nothing wrong with reprocessing copper scrap but there are some definite rules if you are going to use this in the electrical industry as follows:
1) - Make absolutely sure that no copper alloys or less pure copper gets mixed in with the ETP (Electrolytic Tough Pitch) electrical grade copper scrap being reprocessed.
2) - Determine your country's specifications for the allowable amount (%) of electrical grade ETP copper scrap that can reprocessed with the standard production of new ETP copper for use in the electrical industry. (For instance, say 10% by weight.) Rigidly follow this rule.
3) - Be completely sure when you charge the furnace that you do not add other metal impurities such as steel nails in pallets and steel bailing wire.
4) - There may of course be other rules in Sri Lanka that we are not aware of. We therefore advise that you research all federal rules and requirements plus the electrical standards and specifications very, very carefully.

you can manufacture it but you will see conductivity and discoloration problems. you can mix %10-15 scrap with refined copper.there are lots of up-casting machinery(for manufacturing 8mm rod) producers in the world.
