In-Line Monitoring of galv wire

Experts on galvanising, I have for a very long time considered if there are ways to monitor galv wire while in production.
On our galv line the inspector takes a 500mm sample when a former of wire is full, and carries out tests on coatweight, tensile, diameter, elongation, precce, there are others but thses are the main ones. Once he tests the 500mm piece of wire for all mentioned above, he either passes or fails based on that 500mm peice of wire. My concern is that there is wire on a carrier weighing around 600kg.
Could we monitor for diameter, coatweight, tensile,elongation and precce, while wire is in operation. Or are there more logical ways of ensuring that the 600kg of wire is prime, without compromising our customers quality.

There are three Companies that have developed equipment to provide the information you require as regards coating of zinc that can easy change during the process. The mechanical properties do not change so easy so taking samples as you do it could be enogh.

I agree with Eduardo in that the mechanical properties don't change so much, so you don't have to measure it continuously. However, the coating weight changes so much, especially if you don't have gas wiping or if your line speed is over the 30 m/s. The easy way to do this, is measure the wire diameter before and after the zinc pot, and with the difference you can calculate the zinc wight.
