Hi there,

I wonder if it would be more appropriate for you to deal with BICSI, (Building Industry Consulting Service International) www.bicsi.org/ for electronic cable bonding information and techniques rather than to deal with the Wire Association International.

The BISCI Customer-Owned Outside Plant Design Manual has a section dedicated to Grounding, Bonding and Electrical Protection. ( www.bicsi.org )

Thsnks for the link. Seems to me that there are a couple of different types of definitions of bonding wire and depending upon what reference you look at you might get different definitions.

Isn't there one thype of bonding wire that is used in making printed circuits or intergrated circuits?

Still another bonding wire would be used for making bonded coils. this would be a type of magnet wire (enamelled wire, winding wire, etc. depending upon what name you are familiar with.) This bonding wire would have a coating that when exposed to eitehr heat or chemicals would bond or stick forming a coil witht he wires cemented together.

Hi Richard,

Yes we agree that wire bonding in the electronics industry is an esoteric method, often robotic, of attaching very fine wires (commonly gold) to semiconductor components so that these components can be connected with each other or with package leads.

Likewise, we are sure that your definition of (magnet bonding wire) bonding or amalgamating a magnet wire winding into a solid coil with heat is also correct although we would have thought the name "coil bonding wire" would be much more appropriate.

None the less, we took luisra1's question to be one regarding the very common and basic bonding/ grounding issue with telecommunications electronic and other electrical service equipment. He certainly did not reference semi-conductor leads or magnet wire coils, but he did reference electronic applications.

BICSI, I think you will find, is the standard for bonding and grounding telecommunications type electronic equipment, including the interconnecting cables, in North America. Moreover they have offices in Europe and Brasil.

Because luisra1 asked this question back on February 10th and since he never he never came back to us again we sort of think the thread is pretty well closed.
