Polyvinyl Chloride
A common thermoplastic insulation and jacketing material used for wire and cable. It is composed of polymers of vinyl chloride that may be rigid or elastomeric, depending on specific formulation. Produced by the combination of acetylene and hydrochloride acid. The basic polymer is a hard white infusible substance that can be rendered thermoplastic only by the addition of plasticizers. By varying the nature and quantity of the plasticizer, a wide range of properties to suit a particular use can be obtained.
